Join Wild Med Adventures and Andes Mountain Guides for a Mountain Medicine CME expedition on Aconcagua, Jan. 4th – Jan. 22nd, 2027. Wild Med Adventures is responsible for the educational/CME program, while Andes Mountain Guides provides the local mountain logistics and guiding team.

The Aconcagua Mountain Medicine CME begins in Mendoza, Argentina, where the team meets, checks gear, obtains permits and prepares for the move into the Andes. From there we travel toward Puente del Inca and enter Aconcagua Provincial Park, gradually building acclimatization through Confluencia, Plaza Francia and Plaza de Mulas.
The route follows Aconcagua’s classic Normal Route, a non-technical but serious high-altitude ascent. The expedition is designed around steady acclimatization, including time at base camp, an ascent of Cerro Bonete, progressive moves through the upper camps and weather days before the summit attempt.
Wild Med Adventures leads the educational program and CME curriculum. Andes Mountain Guides provides the local mountain logistics, guiding team and on-the-ground decision-making. Lectures and skills sessions are scheduled around the realities of expedition life, weather, safety and group performance.
Climbing Aconcagua is physically demanding and conditions can be severe, with altitude, wind and cold all playing a major role. The itinerary is flexible by design so the guide team can make conservative decisions and give the group the best possible chance for a safe and rewarding expedition.

- Earn 20.0 AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits and WMS FAWM credits through Wild Med Adventures’ mountain medicine curriculum.

CME TO:
Physicians and allied health care providers who counsel patients traveling to remote areas will be interested in the topics covered during this unique CME event. Curriculum includes altitude safety, altitude risk reduction, recent recommendations on altitude-related illnesses prophylaxis, rescue strategies and ethics, as well as real Everest war stories- uncovering what it really takes to deliver health care in the high mountain environment. This will be achieved through didactic lectures, small-group discussions and hands-on training.
Aconcagua is the highest point on the American continent and the tallest peak in the world outside of Asia. Rising 4,000 ft above its surrounding peaks, Aconcagua, “The Stone Sentinel”, dominates the rugged Andean landscape. The ascent to its summit offers spectacular views of the Andes mountain range.
Following the Horcones Glacier, we’ll attempt the summit on the northeast aspect of the mountain, on the classic original route, first getting to the top of Cerro Bonete (5100 mts).
Climbing one of the 7 summits while attending this CME conference makes Aconcagua an unforgettable experience.
ITINERARY
DAY 0
Arrange your flight to Mendoza. Plan travel to Mendoza, Argentina, usually connecting through Santiago or Buenos Aires.
DAY 1 – Monday, Jan. 4th
Arrive in Mendoza. The team will meet you at the airport and transfer you to the hotel. We will hold an introductory meeting, complete a gear check, and gather for a traditional Argentine welcome dinner. Mendoza elevation: 2,428 ft.
DAY 2 – Tuesday, Jan. 5th
Mendoza to Puente del Inca. Early in the morning we obtain the mandatory climbing permits, then drive to Puente del Inca (8,925 ft). We organize loads for the mules and spend the night at camp.
DAY 3 – Wednesday, Jan. 6th
Puente del Inca to Confluencia. We drive to the park entrance and hike about 3 hours to Confluencia Camp (11,010 ft).
DAY 4 – Thursday, Jan. 7th
Plaza Francia trek. After a 3-4 hour hike, we reach the lookout of Aconcagua’s impressive South Face (13,400 ft), then return to Confluencia Camp.
DAY 5 – Friday, Jan. 8th
Confluencia to Plaza de Mulas. We hike 6-8 hours to Plaza de Mulas base camp (14,300 ft), crossing Playa Ancha and climbing Cuesta Brava.
DAY 6 – Saturday, Jan. 9th
Plaza de Mulas rest day. We relax, recover, and enjoy the surroundings at base camp.
DAY 7 – Sunday, Jan. 10th
Cerro Bonete acclimatization climb. As part of our acclimatization, we ascend Cerro Bonete on a 5-6 hour round trip, reaching 16,700 ft.
DAY 8 – Monday, Jan. 11th
Plaza de Mulas rest day. We do a short trek to the Horcones Glacier and practice using crampons before moving higher on the mountain.
DAY 9 – Tuesday, Jan. 12th
Canada Camp. We move to Canada Camp and set up tents with support from porters.
DAY 10 – Wednesday, Jan. 13th
Nido de Condores Camp. It takes about 5 hours to reach camp at 18,200 ft, with big views and, often, a remarkable sunset.
DAY 11 – Thursday, Jan. 14th
Nido de Condores rest day. We rest and prepare for the next push higher on the mountain.
DAY 12 – Friday, Jan. 15th
Berlin Camp. Our goal is to reach the highest camp. After a 3-5 hour hike, we arrive around 19,500 ft and prepare for summit day.
DAY 13 – Saturday, Jan. 16th
Aconcagua summit (22,841 ft). We start early, pass Independencia shelter at 21,476 ft, cross the big traverse, climb the Canaleta, and follow the Guanaco ridge to the highest point in the Western Hemisphere. Expect a 10-13 hour round trip.
DAY 14/15 – Sunday/Monday, Jan. 17th/18th
Extra days. We include two extra days for bad weather or additional acclimatization, primarily for use in the high camps.
DAY 16 – Tuesday, Jan. 19th
Berlin Camp to Plaza de Mulas. We wake up late and hike down to base camp, arriving around lunch. In the evening we prepare the mule loads for the descent.
DAY 17 – Wednesday, Jan. 20th
Plaza de Mulas to Puente del Inca. We hike all the way down to the park entrance, usually 5-7 hours, then continue to camp at Puente del Inca for the night. Optional helicopter descent may be available at extra cost.
DAY 18 – Thursday, Jan. 21st
Puente del Inca to Mendoza. After breakfast we drive to Mendoza, check in to the hotel, and gather in the evening for a final dinner to celebrate the climb.
DAY 19 – Friday, Jan. 22nd
Flight back home. Transfer to Mendoza airport. End of service.
